Prior to going into government sponsored bankruptcy, Chrysler had displayed several electric car concepts including a 200C extended range electric vehicle and a 2 seat electric roadster.

Since re-emerging as property of Italy's Fiat corp, plans for those Chrysler electric cars have been in limbo, and the so-called ENVI program all but dead.

Apparently that's about to change.

Bloomberg is reporting information gleaned from anonymous sources that Chrysler will be unveiling an electric version of the Fiat 500 at the Detroit Auto Show next month.

,Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne was quoted as saying his company plans to sell over 50,000 electric vehicles per year by 2014.

The 500 is already a popular subcompact car in Europe, and a gas version is expected to go on sale in the US next year.

What Chrysler's plan for the Fiat 500 EV is remains unknown at this time.

  1. I am hoping they product a PHEV or BEV version of their Alfa Romeo Competizione:

  2. Orignally the ENVI program was to be supplies with A123 (AONE) Li-ion batteries and I see A123 is still moving forward with production plans in Detroit even with that deal brought down by Fiat earlier in 09. There was some mention on the web that A123 would have an inside track if Fiat restarted ENVI, so this Fiat 500 could be just what the company has been waiting for.

  3. Glad to see that Chryler are going to be bringing out some stylish electric cars!
