2011 Ford Mustang

2011 Ford Mustang

Sometimes things just don’t go as planned and we think that is probably how Ford Motor Company is feeling right now with the 2011 Ford Mustang. Details about next years model was supposed to have an information embargo until the 28th of December, but as I said sometimes things go a rye. Apparently, the information about the newest breed of Mustang was leaked shortly after its Dearborn, Michigan announcement. It is probably no surprise that the leak that sunk this secret was managed through Twitter and Facebook postings. So despite the best laid plans of a December 28th announcement, here is the scoop.

Ford is bringing back the 5.0 Mustang. The 5.0 is s number that warms the heart of any FOMOCO enthusiast, especially when you pair the Mustang name with it. More than just being the next 5.0, the new V8 engine is supposed to produce 417 hp and according to AutoWeek and Ford’s Jim Farley, it will also return 25 mpg (we are assuming that is a hwy number). Pretty impressive, but how?

Preliminary information says that the newest 5.0-liter V8 achieves the horsepower increase by a new engineering feat that allows the engine to breathe better. Who doesn’t like to breathe better right? The engineers over at Ford have managed to do this with an all-new aluminum block with cast-iron cylinder sleeves, more distance between the heads and intake ports that sit vertically on top of the engine. Another impressive upgrade is the tuned exhaust headers (we are sure aftermarket companies aren’t happy about that), again to achieve better engine breathing.

No matter how you slice it, the next generation V8 powered ‘Stang sounds like it could give the 2010 Camaro SS and 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T a run for their money. Now all that is left is to see if pictures of the new Mustang leak before the magic reveal date (2010 V6 pictured above). Stay tuned for more information as it cruises down the information super highway.
