Vision Industries` Zero Emission Tyrano Semi Truck Introduced by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger

I knew a plug-in fuel cell vehicle would emerge, and I knew the best application for fuel cells is trucking.  The future has arrived.  See more pics on Vision Industries homepage here.

LOS ANGELES--(Business Wire)--
Vision Industries Corp. (OTCBB:VIIC), producers of the zero emission, plug-in electric/hydrogen fuel cell hybrid, Tyranosemi truck, are pleased to announce that Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger introduced the Tyrano to the people of California, at the East Steps of the State Capitol building in Sacramento, the morning of Oct. 20, 2009.

Vision Industries Zero Emission Tyrano truck is initially designed to replace diesel and LNG short haul trucks in California. There are currently more than 100,000 short haul trucks in California and more than 1 million nationwide. Traditionally, short haul trucking is done by trucks that are on the later part of their life cycle, meaning less efficient and more polluting trucks. Also, short-haul trucking predominantly occurs in populated urban areas, affecting the health and quality of life of millions of California residents.

"This truck produces zero greenhouse gas emissions and is proof you can protect the environment and the economy at the same time. This is exactly the kind of technology we need to keep California on a path toward a greener future," said Governor Schwarzenegger.

Secretary for Environmental Protection Linda Adams quoted, "This product is the direct result and proof of California's Environmental Policies."

Vision CEO Martin Schuermann stated that "these trucks are 30% to 40% cheaper to operate than diesel trucks. We expect a strong market demand once these trucks are in the hands of California truckers."

  1. This would have to be first time I have ever seen the words "hydrogen" and "cheap" appear together. How can any fuel cell be cheaper than diesel?,answer-they cant. the cost of a kg of hydrogen is far more than diesel, nor is current production of h2 anything like emission-free. The whole thing looks like, ahem vaporware. Arnold seems to love his h2 photo-ops though.

DC, get used to it. Old myths about hydrogen efficiencies and costs are about to be dispelled, especially in applications like trucking, maritime and aviation.

  3. Jason:
Well I will take a back seat to no one in my skepticism about the viability of hydrogen. Even so, I devoutly hope that you are right. So much the better if it works. I'm not a particularly religious person, but I am very fond of the old phrase: "God send that it shall be true".

  4. I'd love for hydrogen to work, but I'll believe it as soon as Airgas (where many university labs and presumably a lot of welders get their gases) starts delivering hydrogen made from water -- rather than from natural gas.
But there are a lot of options for clean trucks -- if hydrogen won't work, BEVs or CNG will.

  5. I would love to see the work of hydrogen. It was Governor Arnold who had invited Vision industries to make such a truck and finally they have got the end product.

  7. This would never work in the UK, we would need plugin stations every 10 miles to cope with the traffic delays

  8. This is perfect for the UK. The Vision drive system does not idle and has regenerative braking. Gas mileage in the city is way better than on the open highway.

  9. The Port of Los Angeles just approved the purchase of its first Tyrano zero emission truck. The tyrano should be doing its part to help start cleaning the air in Los ANgeles later this year.
