Mazda Kiyora Concept Coming To 2009 Tokyo Motor Show

The 2009 Tokyo Auto Show is coming later this month and were getting you ready for the new concepts and innovations that will be there. Like the Mazda Kiyora, which has not been seen since the 2008 Paris Auto Show.

It's now sporting an eco-friendly transmission and the classic Mazda smile on its front fascia.

The Kiyora (which translates to clean and pure) might just be the showstopper when it is revealed to the press on October 21. Mazda has just released new photos and details of the Kiyora to a crowd of mixed reactions. The Japanese Anime styling seems to provoke love-hate emotions from the Mazda community. Is it a hatchback? Why is it smiling at me? It looks very leafy. These are just a few of the comments that the Kiyora photos have gained so far.

Whether you appreciate the sleek-futuristic styling or teal on black color scheme, the Kiyora concept is physically and mechanically impressive. It features a revamped version of the direct-injected, 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine from the current Mazda 2 (which is coming to America), but it weighs 220 pounds less.

In fact, rumors suggest that the Kiyora concept will be the starting block from which the new Mazda 2 is cut. The biggest addition to the Kiyora since the last time we saw it--- the transmission. Labeled the Sky-Drive, it is a six-speed automatic with a revolutionary lockup clutch that will be faster than any automatic gearbox to date.

This in turn will increase fuel economy and shifting response. Mazda claims the lightweight body and Sky-Drive combination will yield 75 mpg. With an incredibly efficient engine named the SKY-G and its Sky-Drive transmission, Mazda's intent for the Tokyo Auto Show is to showcase their plans for an everlasting blue sky, with a focus on driving enjoyment without hurting the environment. We cant wait to see what else the Kiyora has to offer to us and our planet.

  1. It is a very cool looking car from Mazda. Mazda has one of the best names in the field of manufacturing cars and it is sure to remain as one for the years to come with incredibly engineered cars.
