Searching for a new car can be fun—researching options, comparing models and my favorite, test-drives. If you are looking for a small car, then not only have you found the right site and you are in luck because I am also on the hunt for the perfect small to mid-size car. One of the cars on my list has been the 2010 Volvo C30.

I have written a review about the Volvo C30 earlier this year and was impressed by its features and performance. Today, over at our partner site, TheCarConnection.com, they reported on the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety rating the Volvo C30 above the Chevrolet Cobalt, Honda Civic and Scion tC. This is just one more reason you should consider the 2010 Volvo C30, not to mention that it is probably one of the best looking hatchback model on the market.

Pros: Turbo performance with almost zero lag, modern interior design, unique exterior styling

Cons: Standard features, hard to get navigation option, lack of all-wheel drive option.

The cons are really what need explaining here, so buckle your safety belt. The Volvo C30 gets a fair amount of negative press for the lack of standard options like Bluetooth connectivity, satellite radio and cruise control. Whereas, these options are standard on a lot of competing models and for the price range, you should at least get cruise control. The navigation option is also one that trips people up; it is offered and even really cool, but you have to pay an extra $350 dollars to get the Custom Build privileges and then pay another $2200 for the option itself. Finally, and all-wheel drive model is not an option, which means that the Audi 3 Quattro has an edge.

Bottom line—if you are in the market for a small hatchback, then check out the 2010 Volvo C30 and see if its unique styling, unrivaled reputation for safety and brisk performance are right for you.
