The Traic from Green Vehicles
The San Jose, California Company Green Vehicles, has started producing its fleet of electric vehicles. With 50 deposits on its vehicles, they hope to deliver the first one in August. Their goal is to provide a vehicle that is environmentally friendly that won’t cost an arm and a leg. Lee Colin Vice President of Sales for Green Vehicles said “We started with a price point of 25,000 dollars, and worked to find parts for quality and to keep the price down”.
When asked about the lithium ion batteries, Lee said they are building them in the U.S. and China with their own staff. It took them three years from beginning to find the people and technology to produce the quality parts for their vehicles.
The Triac has three wheels and will do a top speed of 75 according to Lee. A double check of their website states 80 MPH. This was explained that the software will limit it 75 instead of the 80 MPH listed. The range is estimated at 100 miles per charge. The Buckshot and the Triac use the same 20kW AC motor and can be plugged into either 120V or a 240V outlet. Charging will take 6 hours.
While both vehicles are 3 wheeled vehicles in California it is not required to have a motorcycle license to drive them. In other states it may be required to operate. It must also be noted that because these vehicles are classified as motorcycles, are not required to be crash tested.
The Moose, their 4 wheeled vehicle, has not been crashed tested either and has been limited to 25 MPH. It has been classified as a NEV (Neighborhood Electric Vehicle) until these can be completed. Lee did tell me that he has driven it at 55 MPH.
