ZAP is currently working on an electric pickup truck that they plan to produce at the Zap Motor Manufacturing plant in Franklin, Kentucky.

At this time, not much is known about the vehicle.  ZAP has released some information.  The vehicle will be a four wheeled (some ZAP products have less than 4 wheels) pickup truck and will run under electric power.  The vehicle has gone through the engineering stages and now will move on to development and testing.  It will be built in the U.S. and use most parts from suppliers within this country.

You can reserve your own ZapTruckXL now for only $99.  The MSRP is listed at $14,500.  A release date is not set at this time.

ZAP intends to build the truck alongside its upcoming Alias at the plant they plan to build in Kentucky.  The plant is currently non-operational as ZAP waits for $160 million in grant money they applied for from the U.S. Department of Energy.  The DOE should make announcements regarding grants by the end of summer.

  1. Given that this "truck" will not have all the safety innovations mandated by law for real trucks, it should properyly be called a glorified golf cart or somthing more honest.

    Bad stuff?

  2. Given the past History of this company which is available at Forbes.com and wired.com. Plus the fact the Parent company has had 4 chapter 11 filings and five Name changes does not bode well for continual belief that they will get 'earnest funds' from the US Govt to build a plant in Kentucky. This company is a a 'crap shoot' in terms of a viable EV company. Caveat Emptor.
