Ram Hybrid Badge

The Hybrid HEMI is on the prowl again. The folks at Leftlane News got some new pictures of what will become Dodge's only hybrid model: the Ram pickup truck. This comes after Chrysler pulled the plug on hybrid versions of the full-size Aspen and Durango SUVs a short time ago.

The Hybrid Ram uses the same system that we recently reviewed on the Chevy Silverado Hybrid. Chrysler developed the 'two-mode' hybrid powertrain in concert with GM, Mercedes Benz and BMW.

In the Dodge Ram application, a 5.7 liter HEMI V8, featuring Chrysler's Multi-Displacement System, (which turns off four of the eight cylinders when possible) will supply the power required for towing duties.

In light of the new powertrain offering and the heaps of praise that the Ram has been receiving, this could give the Silverado Hybrid a run for its money. On the other hand, money (as in, the price tag) may be the one factor that keeps buyers away. Stay tuned.
