The Tesla Model S is set to appear tonight on the CBS Late Show with David Letterman.

According to Tesla CEO Elon Musk, "It will likely be the first fully drivable car to appear on the Late Show with David Letterman."

Why the Tesla Model S as the first car on the stage, the answer is simple.  Combustion engine vehicles are prohibited from the stage due to health and safety regulations, but the Model S features electric power only and is safe enough for the stage.

Elon Musk will make an appearance along with the car.  According to Musk, "I'll be on the show along with the car, and I am looking forward to a lively conversation with Dave, a fellow sports-car aficionado and Tesla fan."

With Model S production a few years away in 2012, Tesla will take this TV appearance opportunity to raise brand awareness and spark interest in the car.  The Model S is Tesla's second offering and is budget friendly in comparison to their Roadster model.

The Model S will be on display April 30th at the Plaza Hotel in Manhattan from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
