Included in the restructuring plan GM provided to the U.S. Treasury on Tuesday was mention of their intent to build two new Extended Range Electric Vehicles (EREVs) using the same technology as their much-anticipated Chevrolet Volt.

The Volt, which will be available for purchase late next year, will run for 40 miles on a single electric charge, without using a drop of gas.

Details are sketchy, but one of the two future EREVs may be the Opel Ampera, which will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor show next month.

In the restructuring plan, GM states that they plan to significantly invest in alternative fuel and plug-in hybrid vehicles, bringing a total of 14 to market by 2012 and 26 to market by 2014.
