Rumors are flying that the production of the popular Toyota Prius, slated to begin State-side at the Tupelo, Mississippi Toyota Highlander plant in 2010, has been pushed back to 2011. Right now, nearly every Prius sold worldwide is assembled in Japan, meaning those of us who have been waiting to buy one until they have the "Made in the USA" sticker on them, are probably going to have to wait a little longer.

In the meantime, if gas prices skyrocket again, demand for the Prius will increase again, too, and Toyota plans to unveil their third-gen Prius at the NAIAS in Detroit in January. By that time, Toyota may have an "official" Prius production change to announce.

Or maybe not.
