Volkswagen has just introduced a new variant of its TwinDrive Plugin-in Hybrid Golf, which is based on the new Golf 6 platform. It is basically a refresh of the prior concept that had based on the at-the-time current Golf 5 platform.

The car is propelled by a parallel hybrid drivetrain that emphasizes the electric motor over the combustion one. It uses an intelligent operating system that chooses the most efficient drivetrain setting based of the moment to moment driving needs. It uses a lithium-ion battery that is recharged by from an electric outlet, and is said to have an electric-only range of 31 miles.

A 20 vehicle fleet will be tested in coordination with the German government, in Berlin beginning next year. The vehicle could go on sale in 2010.

  1. "The vehicle could go on sale in 2010."
If that could be true, I think I could make an infidelity to Opel.
