If you're thinking of taking a spin to the 2009 Detroit auto show--which kicks off next week for the press and the public--the organizers have a special treat in store.
The Michigan Economic Development Corp. is sponsoring the EcoXperience, a green car ride-and-drive at the 2009 Detroit North American International Auto Show. One dozen vehicles will be available for the public to drive on a test track inside Cobo Center, according to Automotive News. NAIAS' executive director and the Michigan Economic Development Corp. say that the exhibit will provide evidence that the auto industry is on the right track with regards to efficient, green automobiles.
Currently, GM, Ford, and Mitsubishi are confirmed participants in the ride-and-drive. Speed limit is set at 10 mph on the 70,000 square-foot test track in Michigan Hall, and barriers will be positioned around the track's perimeter.
There's plenty more for green-car fans at the 2009 Detroit auto show--the 2010 Toyota Prius and 2009 Honda Insight, new diesel-powered cars and Ford's new range of hybrids. Stay tuned over at our flagship site TheCarConnection.com for wall-to-wall coverage of the Detroit auto show.--Colin Mathews
