It's once again time to survey the best deals on hybrid, electric, diesel, and fuel-efficient gasoline cars.

With 2017 models arriving in larger numbers, carmakers and dealers are eager to move inventory of leftover 2016 vehicles.

We have several 2016 models this month that are about to be displaced, and are consequently heavily incentivized.

Some are virtually identical to the 2017 models that will replace them, although buyers may miss out on some updates and new features by choosing the older versions of other models.

As always, head over to CarsDirect for more information.

Hybrids

Despite being the first model year of a ground-up redesign, the 2016 Toyota Prius has received significant incentives since it went on sale.

With 2017 models now arriving at dealerships, Toyota is cutting lease rates on the 2016 Prius Two model by $20, according to CarsDirect.

That brings the lease down to $199 a month for 36 months, with $1,999 due at signing and an allowance of 12,000 miles per year.

This offer expires October 3.

Like the Prius, the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid mid-size sedan is also being displaced by 2017 models, leading Hyundai to increase incentives.

The 2016 model now boasts a $4,000 bonus, up from $2,500 last month.

That can be combined with a $1,000 "conquest bonus" for buyers switching from competitor brands.

Both incentives expire September 30.

Plug-in Hybrids

In addition to the hybrid model, the 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid also gets increased incentives.

Through September 30, Hyundai is offering a $3,500 bonus, and a $1,500 "conquest bonus" on the plug-in hybrid version of its mid-size sedan.

Those are increases of $2,500 and $1,000, respectively, over the bonuses offered last month, according to CarsDirect.

The 2017 Ford Fusion Energi is freshly updated, with a number of changes that include an electric range increased from 20 to 22 miles.

The updated model also happens to be a good deal, thanks to a lease rate of $219 a month for 36 months.

That offer, which expires October 3, includes a down payment of $1,999, and a mileage allowance of 10,500 miles per year.

Electric cars

Thanks to slow sales, incentives introduced for the 2016 Nissan Leaf over the past two months carry over to September.

It's still possible to lease a 2016 Leaf at $199 a month for 36 months, with 12,000 miles per year.

In addition, there is no down payment for the base Leaf S model.

Note that the Leaf S uses the smaller 24-kilowatt-hour battery pack and has an 84-mile range, while other models have a 30-kWh pack and 107-mile range.

These offers remain valid through October 3.

2016 Chevrolet Spark EV

2016 Chevrolet Spark EV

With the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV set to arrive in dealerships before the end of this year, the Chevrolet Spark EV likely isn't long for this world.

While the Spark EV can't match the Bolt EV's 238-mile range, the 2016 model might still be attractive to buyers looking for a deal.

It's currently possible to lease a 2016 Spark EV for $139 a month for 36 months—and no money down.

That offer includes an allowance of 10,000 miles per year, and expires September 30.

However, only buyers in California, Oregon, and Maryland can take advantage of it, as those are the only states where the Spark EV is sold.

2016 BMW 328d

Diesel cars

After some delays, BMW received approval from the EPA to sell its 2017 diesel models in the U.S. last month.

As those new models arrive, BMW still has some leftover 2016 models to get rid of, apparently.

Consequently, the 2016 BMW 328d received a $40 cut in its monthly lease payments.

BMW's best lease offer is now $309 a month for 36 months, with $4,234 due at signing and 10,000 miles per year.

Note that this offer—which expires September 30—applies only to the 328d sedan, not the wagon model.

It makes the 2016 sedan $123 a month cheaper to lease than a 2017 model, according to CarsDirect.

2016 Honda Fit

2016 Honda Fit

Fuel-efficient gasoline cars

The Honda Fit hatchback is popular enough that it rarely gets sales incentives, but there are some deals to be had on 2016 models through October 31.

Honda is offering 0.9-percent APR financing for 36 months, or 1.9-percent APR financing for up to 60 months.

Dealers in certain regions are also deploying unadvertised discounts at their discretion, according to CarsDirect.

Meanwhile, with a heavily-updated 2017 model on the way, the 2016 Chevrolet Sonic continues to be heavily discounted.

As it did last month, Chevy is offering a flat 16-percent discount on the oldest cars in stock.

The 2017 Sonic will be mechanically identical to the 2016 model, but with different styling and more technology features.
