Subaru has released the first images of its Legacy Concept, due to make its worldwide debut at the 2013 Los Angeles Auto Show.

Updates for Subaru's midsize sedan are always awaited with eagerness, and the concept points the way to a more dynamic, sleek offering than the current car.

Resplendent in a coat of Ocean Silver Metallic paintwork, Subaru says the concept features a coupe-like silhouette and a more "distinguished" design--a new hexagonal grille and "hawk-eye" headlamp design complete the car's striking front profile. That hawk-eye theme is continued on the aggressive rear lamps.

Being a Subaru, an all-wheel drive powertrain is essential, though with 21-inch alloy wheels you wouldn't venture too far off the beaten track...

As well as looking to the future, the model celebrates the Legacy's 25th anniversary.

There's no word on powertrain just yet--more details are likely to emerge before and during the Los Angeles Auto Show--but Subaru has made big efforts in recent years to introduce cars with greater efficiency, with diesel-hybrid concepts and production vehicles like the 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid.
