The automotive world has been waiting to for the BMW MegaCity to be introduced, but we will have to wait a long time for that. Recently, BMW announced that they will be renaming the MegaCity and future eco-conscious vehicles and placing them under a new brand—BMWi. The new BMWi range is being positioned by BMW to be the sub-brand for electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles with a significant addition of interconnectivity between the driver, the car and the surroundings.

Back to the MegaCity and its new name. BMW has chosen to rename the MegaCity to the BMW i3. It will join a plug-in hybrid model, named the BMW i8. We would love to tell you more, but there just aren’t a lot of details. The most we really know is that we should start to see the BMWi brand and i3 hit the market in 2013. Oh yes, we also know that BMW is planning on targeting existing BMW owners and according to AllCarsElectric.com, a “new-to BMW cosmopolitan drivers looking for an ecological and gadget-filled drive.”

So since we can’t tell you much about the cars we should fill you in on the brand. The new line-up will be branded with the new BMWi logo, a blue-edged italic letter “i” and a BMW logo with a blue ring around it. More details might be forthcoming with the start of the 2011 Geneva Motor Show early in March.
