The Chevrolet Cruze has been getting a lot of good press from the safety ratings to the interesting commercials they have been running to the Department 180 in-depth video on how Chevrolet is making sure the Cruze is durable. GM ran into a little snag back in October when they announced that they wouldn’t be producing the RS appearance package due to undisclosed “quality issues.” The delay is the second for the Cruze model, which was original scheduled to go into production earlier in 2010 until it was pushed to third quarter 2010.

Does this mean the Cruze is less of a car then some of the media have lead the general consumer to believe? Actually, we would like to believe that Chevrolet (and GM) are being true to their word and trying to reinvent the company by correcting problems before they get out of hand. “There were some issues affecting the quality of the package, and in order to ensure that no vehicle leaves without meeting our standards, we held off until it was perfect,” Lesley Hettinger, a GM spokesperson said. If you have seen both the Dept. 180 video and the commercial, "Going Hunting for Civic," then you know GM really wants people to believe that the Cruze is very different from anything they have produced in decades.

Bottom line—After the bad press GM has had with their financial situation in the last couple of years, people will tend to be skeptical. Our best advice—take the Cruze for a spin and then report back to GM and AllSmallCars.com to let us know what you think. Is the Cruze a game changer in the entry-level segment for Chevrolet? At a starting MSRP of $16,995 it definitely is worth a look when comparing to Honda Civic, Toytoa Corolla or Kia Forte.
