2010 Hyundai Elantra
Our partners over at TheCarConnection.com have not only given a full report on each of the cars in the 2010 Consumer Reports Top Picks, but have also given the TCC Rating for each of the cars as well. You might be surprised how the CR and TCC reviews fall in comparison. That aside, we here at AllSmallCars.com are pleasantly surprised that 3 out of the 10 cars are not only small cars, but also some of our personal favorites. In fact, the only car really missing for us (in terms of favorites) is the 2010 Mini Cooper Clubman.

Sporty Car—Volkswagen GTI
Green Car—Toyota Prius
As you can see, not only is one of the small cars on the list a Toyota, but it is also a car that is part of a massive recall. You might think this is contradictory, but a spokesperson for Consumer Reports was on National Public Radio today explaining that they see recalls as good for consumers because they show a commitment to fix a problem that would otherwise cause consumers problem and in turn make the reliability ratings lower. Besides, the fix for the Prius has seemed to be straightforward and it does have the best EPA city mpg rating of any production hybrid in its class on the market. Kudos to Toyota for being a leader in hybrid technology.
We also give a shout out to Hyundai, a company that has proven that a car can be inexpensive, reliable, come with a class leading warranty and still be pleasant to drive. Since the redesign to the Elantra in 2002 and then the subsequent redesigns, Hyundai has been praised for having better finishing and materials than a lot of its class competitors.
Bottom line—the top picks from Consumer Reports is a great honor, so if you are in the market for a new car, be sure to check out the list and see if any of the models fit the bill for your next car.
