Honda has just begun selling its next generation 2010 Insight Hybrid in Japan for 1.89 million Yen, which translates to roughly $20,052 USD. The EX trim will be closer to $23,000.

The vehicle is expected to hit the US market in April, in two trims, the LX and EX. Pricing here has not been set although Honda has now stated the plan is to sell it for "under $20,000."

The car has a 1.3 L VTEC engine using Honda's fifth generation integrated motor assist mild hybrid drivetrain. It is expected to get 41 mpg city/43 mpg highway in the US. In Japan it has been rated 61 mpg JC08 mode and 10.6 mpg 10-15 mode.

Honda will begin manufacturing the Insight in Japan but would consider building it overseas if volumes are greater than the 100,000 they are projecting (or hoping) to sell in the US.
